Pratibha “Patti” Tripathi was called a trailblazer because of her awe-inspiring tenacity to achieve impressive professional success. She became the first network news anchor of Indian origin in her late 20’s when she was not well versed in English at age 12. The head of philanthropy of a large corporation referred to her as a visionary when she launched her public charity appropriately named Saris to Suits ® within the confines of a patriarchal South Asian community and a mainstream America and judicial system unaware of cultural nuances. It happened before hashtags such as #MeToo #TimesUp and the UN’s #HeForShe went viral.
But her wildly appalling personal journey fit for a movie is not widely known. After navigating the fallout from a traditional marriage, she has made an impact worldwide by using her voice to advocate for women and girls whose voices have systematically been silenced.
2012 witnessed Saris to Suits ® come to fruition to make an incremental difference for
women and girls so they can earn and achieve their fullest potential.
It’s been a journey of building brand awareness, and collaborating with
mission-aligned organizations that aid underserviced women and children
from all walks of life. It was a calling or social responsibility of
sorts for a media professional. She knew she had to do something, beyond
the work she had done on CNN, to make an impact and maybe help change
circumstances for other women and girls.
